A close encounter with a female kingfisher
On a rainy day, I spotted this female kingfisher near a small pond. From the branches she repeatedly dived into the water, hunting for fish. Every once in a while, a sparrowhawk flew over, so she kept scanning the sky to make sure she didn’t turn from the hunter into the hunted. Photographing this completely wild bird from just a few meters away was quite an experience.
Hares in the polder
A common sight in the Netherlands: hares in a Dutch polder. Every now and then I visit these hares, photographing them from a nearby bench surrounded by long grass. They peacefully forage, preen, or take naps in the warm glow of the evening sun.
